Rambagh Palace- India
This is the grandest of the Indian palace hotels and a former home of the Jaipur royal family – the Rajmata, Queen Mother, still lives in the grounds. Known as the jewel of Jaipur it is located in extensive gardens, with lawns large enough for polo matches, and is a short drive from the city centre and its plethora of gem dealers, markets and museums. It offers a choice of rooms and suites, some of which were once the maharajah’s private chambers. The swimming pool is set in its own garden, next to which is the newly opened spa.

| The luxurious, almost to the point of decadent, spa suites are tented but with wooden floors, chandeliers and large copper baths, complete with their own outdoor relaxation area. Treatments on offer are a fusion of Indian and Western with the emphasis on the former – while yoga, meditation and prayanama are also offered. |
